Dr. Duha Shaheen is a UAE national and obtained her medical degree from Dubai Medical College in 1994. After graduation, Dr. Shaheen worked for the Dubai Department of Health and Medical Services in the endocrinology subdivision of the internal medicine department at Dubai hospital for a few years.

Dr. Shaheen went to the United States of America to further her studies and worked in medical research in the Long Beach VA hospital in Long Beach, California before joining the internal medicine residency program in Springfield, Massachusetts, which she completed in 2006.

After becoming certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Shaheen entered the fellowship program in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the New England Medical Center- Tufts university school of medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Endocrinology division at the New England Medical Center has a distinguished history dating to the 1940s where a number of advances were made including the introduction of anti-thyroid drugs for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, the use of thyroid hormone therapy for the treatment of benign and malignant thyroid nodules, the isolation and preparation of ACTH for clinical use. The first successful human treatment of growth hormone deficiency was in 1958 by Dr. Raben, among other achievements and discoveries.

Following successful completion of the endocrinology fellowship at this esteemed facility, Dr. Shaheen became American Board Certified Diplomate in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. During this time, she had extensive training and experience in general endocrinology, with special emphasis on pituitary/adrenal disorders, thyroid disorders-including thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy training-, lipid and metabolic bone disorders as well as diabetes mellitus.

Following that she underwent further fellowship training in Diabetes at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Joslin Diabetes Center is the world's largest diabetes research center, diabetes clinic, and provider of diabetes education. It is a Harvard Medical School Affiliated institution that is unique in its sole focus on diabetes. Joslin has the world's largest team of board-certified physicians treating diabetes and its complications, as well as the largest staff of Certified Diabetes Educators anywhere in the world.
